CERTIFICATE IN SOCIAL WORK
One-Month Intensive Self-Paced & Self-Study Programme
Duration: 4 Weeks
Total Lectures: 12
Frequency: 3 Lectures per Week
Delivery Model: EMI Self-Paced / Self-Study with Direct Teaching & One-on-One Coaching Approach
Programme Description
The Certificate in Social Work is designed to introduce students to the principles, values, knowledge, skills, and practical methods required for effective social work practice.
In keeping with the standard EMI self-paced and self-study model, students are not expected merely to read lecture notes independently. Each lecture is written as a direct teaching session between the lecturer and the individual student. The student should therefore study each lesson as though the lecturer is personally present, explaining the subject, asking questions, providing examples, assigning practical exercises, and guiding the student toward independent application.
Students should proceed sequentially through the lectures and complete the required assignments, reflections, projects, and sectional examinations before proceeding where instructed.
EMI STUDY METHOD — IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION TO THE STUDENT
This Certificate programme follows the EMI Self-Paced and Self-Study Model.
Therefore:
Do not rush through the lectures merely because they are available.
For every lecture:
- Read the lecture carefully from beginning to end.
- Imagine that the lecturer is speaking directly to you.
- Stop whenever you encounter a coaching question.
- Think about the question before reading further.
- Complete every practical exercise.
- Complete the sectional assignment.
- Complete the required project where applicable.
- Review your answers critically.
- Submit your work to the EMI International Assignment and Examination Board.
- Only then proceed to the next lecture where the programme instructions require submission first.
The purpose of this structure is to ensure that although the programme is online, self-paced and self-study, the learner receives an educational experience that goes beyond passive reading.
You are not simply reading about Social Work. You are being coached to think, reason and practise like a Social Work professional.
Programme Completion Standard
Successful completion requires satisfactory participation in:
- 12 lectures
- Sectional assignments
- Practical exercises
- Individual projects
- Two sectional examinations
- Final practical project
- Final examination
- Final reflection
The learner’s performance should be assessed not merely on the ability to recall definitions, but also on the ability to apply Social Work principles to real-life situations, demonstrate ethical reasoning, communicate appropriately, analyse social problems, develop interventions, and propose practical solutions.
